Big Game angling Mexico

Zihuatanejo
Tequila, tacos, and hard fighting fish; sunshine, sailfish, and refreshing drinks; in other words: big game fishing in Mexico.
Most anglers dream about fighting the ocean’s big game under a tropical sky at least once in their lifetime. In Zihuatanejo, on the Pacific coast of Mexico, you can experience the thrill of big game fishing at a very reasonable price.
We were the first in Scandinavia to offer this destination and through the years many of our customers have experienced a "dream come true" fishing trip in Zihuatanejo. Many of them return there again and again for further adventures.
The fishing in the seas around Zihuatanejo is nothing less than world class, in particular it is the angling for sailfish that has made the destination famous. The concentration of sailfish is huge, and once you have caught one of these leaping fighters, you yourself are "hooked".
Sailfish angling is often spiced by catches of the beautiful and hard fighting dorado, and if lady luck smiles upon you, you can run into a shoal of yellowfin tuna. Many people also have had the experience of a lifetime, sitting in the fighting chair while battling a huge blue or black marlin.
The in-shore fishing is a story in itself, with bonito, jack, roosterfish, and the local species of garfish, which reach up to 10kg, providing a lot of fun on light tackle.
Besides the great fishing, one has endless opportunities to relax in the sun and enjoy cold drinks and the wonderful Mexican cuisine.
Zihuatanejo is a charming town with its own distinct atmosphere. One should bring the non-fishing part of the family. Sunbathing on white, sandy beaches surrounded by palms, snorkelling on the coral reefs, and swimming with dolphins are just some of the activities you can take part in if you do not fish.
The awesome fishery outside Zihuatanejo has spawned a fleet of charter boats, you will mainly fish from smaller super pangas, a small (around 25 feet) vessel, equipped with down riggers, out riggers, GPS, and all the other features that you find on larger vessels. The super pangas are less expensive, which is why we can offer you a cheaper trip when compared to other big game fishing destinations.
A super panga carries two anglers at a time, who share between four or five rods. In fact your chances of catching fish are better than on the larger boats, where often between four to six anglers sharing the fishing.
Fishing from the smaller boats is an experience in itself: you are closer to the ocean and everything is simply more intense.
The season starts in November and ends in June; the high season is usually from December to February. The sailfish is the primary quarry throughout the season and days with four to five sailfish per boat are not unusual.
Typically the best months to fish for the huge yellowfin tuna, which reaches up to 140kg, is April and May. Likewise the fishing for blue and black marlin up to 400kg is best in this period.
The whole season offers fishing for marlin as well as tuna. Moreover there is always the chance of catching the hard fighting dorado. The roosterfish is one of the hardest fighters of the ocean and, as a bonus, these fish can be caught throughout the season while fishing in-shore.
For a real challenge, why not try fly fishing for sailfish.

Zihuatanejo is a well tested angling destination. Most anglers choose to visit between November and March, mainly because temperatures in Europe and the USA leave alittle to be desired at this time of year. Next year we have chosen to arrange a group tour in May, which gives the clients the chance to try something a little different, where the focus will be fishing with poppers.
